The eye perceives light and color. It sends that information to the brain, which processes it and delivers it to us as chair, table, apple. This act of separation is the function of the ego, which allows us to survive but can also be problematic in extreme control. In art and spiritual practices, ego-death is a virtuous aspiration to unlearn preconceived ideas and access deeper truths.
